The four scoring dimensions
- Buyer fit: the product must solve a clear problem for an identifiable buyer.
- Evidence: important claims should be tied to an exact model, measurable specification, or clearly attributed source.
- Tradeoffs: meaningful reasons to skip must be stated alongside the benefits.
- Freshness: the exact listing, ASIN, and model details must have a visible review date.
What the stars mean
Ratings use a five-point scale. Scores above 4.5 indicate a particularly strong fit for the stated buyer and use case. Scores from 4.0 to 4.5 indicate a useful shortlist candidate with meaningful conditions or tradeoffs. The score belongs to Libertas Picks and is never presented as an Amazon customer rating.
Source hierarchy
We prefer exact manufacturer specifications and documentation, followed by the exact Amazon listing tied to the supplied ASIN. Volatile elements such as price, stock, seller, delivery speed, deal labels, purchase counts, and live customer ratings are not stored as editorial facts.
Hands-on testing
Research-based analysis is labeled as research-based. A page may say that a product was tested only when the site owner has supplied real testing notes and the page explains what was tested. Product-listing images and manufacturer claims are not evidence of personal use.
Affiliate independence
Commission eligibility does not determine the editorial score. A product can receive a lower score, a clear skip condition, or removal from the catalog even when an affiliate link exists.
Updates and corrections
Each product page shows the most recent listing-check date. Material corrections update that date. Broken links, discontinued variants, or unsupported claims are corrected or removed when identified.
